
Brewers Even Series with 4-2 Win

The Helena Brewers (13-20) scored two late runs to top the Grand Junction Rockies (18-15) 4-2 and even their series record at a game apiece.
The Brewers pitching staff came up with one of their top outings this season, shutting out the Rockies through the first seven innings. Brandon Woodruff had his best start of the year, pitching five innings of shutout baseball, striking out two and giving up five hits.
The 8th overall pick in the 2014 draft, Kyle Freeland,was perfect through his first 10 hitters for the Rockies before Brandon Diaz came up with an infield single in the fourth. Freeland pitched four innings, giving up two hits and striking out three.
Helena broke the scoring open with two runs in the fifth off reliever Logan Norris. Mitch Meyer, Luis Aviles and Edgardo Rivera came up with three consecutive two-out hits in the frame to score two runs off the righty.
The Rockies would tie it up in the eighth with two runs off reliever Devin Williams. Henry Garcia ripped an RBI single to center to score Omar Carrizales and later scored on a wild pitch.
Helena immediately responded with two more runs in the bottom of the eighth. Tucker Neuhaus put a double down the left field line to advance Brandon Diaz to third and put two runners in scoring position with no outs. Natanael Mejia came up with an RBI single to score Diaz and Eric Williams laid a sacrifice bunt down the first base line to bring in Neuhaus.
Devin Williams closed out the ninth, striking out Carrizales to end the game.
The Brewers and Rockies will go at it on Monday night in game three of their four-game series from Kindrick Field. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
