Biloxi Shuckers News Release
BILOXI, MS - As part of his recovery from a right shoulder injury, Brewers catcher Stephen Vogt has been assigned to the Biloxi Shuckers roster on Major League Rehab. Vogt will not count against Biloxi's 25-man roster and will play in Wednesday night's game against the Jumbo Shrimp.
During his six year Major League career, Vogt has hit .251 with 57 home runs and 218 RBI in 521 games. A 12th-round selection of the Tampa Bay Rays in 2007, the Milwaukee Brewers claimed Vogt off waivers from the Oakland Athletics in 2017. After joining the Brewers, Vogt hit .254 with eight home runs and 20 RBI in 45 games with Milwaukee.
Vogt has been in Arizona at the Brewers extended spring training complex recovering from a right shoulder strain that sidelined him during Spring Training. He joins LHP Boone Logan as the second member of the Brewers roster in Biloxi on a rehab assignment.
An everyday catcher for the Athletics, Vogt was named an American League All-Star in 2015 and 2016. Along with being recognized for his play on the field, Vogt was earned the MLBPAA Athletics Heart and Hustle Award in 2015 and the Athletics Dave Steward Service Award in 2015 and 2016. He also won the Athletics Jim 'Catfish' Hunter Award in 2014, '15 and '16, an award voted on by the teams players, coaches and staff members for the player "who's play on the field and conduct in the clubhouse best exemplifies the courageous, competitive and inspirational spirit demonstrated by the late Catfish Hunter."
While in the Rays organization from 2007 to 2012, Vogt logged time with the Montgomery Biscuits in the Southern League during the 2010 season, hitting .301 with 13 home runs and 85 RBI in 97 games. He was named a Southern League Mid-Season and Post-Season All-Star and moved up to Durham for the final 31 games of the season.
In another roster move, LHP Wade Miley has been removed from the Biloxi roster after having his contract selected from the Shuckers. Miley will start for Milwaukee on Wednesday night against the Cincinnati Reds.
Biloxi begins a five-game series against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp at MGM Park on Wednesday night at 6:35 pm. The Shuckers are slated to send RHP Thomas Jankins (4-0) to the mound against Jumbo Shrimp RHP Nick Neidert (2-1, 4.12). It's another All-You-Can-Eat-Wednesday, where a $20 ticket gets fans into the Shuckers buffet in the Community Bank Terrace.
Single game tickets for the Biloxi Shuckers 2018 season are on sale now and can be purchased at the MGM Park box office or over the phone through Ticketmaster at (800) 745-3000.
