BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Midfielder Brenden Aaronson has been named to the USL Team of the Week for Week 20, after helping Bethlehem Steel FC conclude July a resounding victory.

The 17-year-old earned the honor with a standout performance against Atlanta United 2, collecting his first goal and assist in a professional match. With the league honor, Aaronson becomes the first player from the Philadelphia Union Academy to earn a United Soccer League honor.

Aaronson set up the eventual Steel FC game-winning goal in the first half. Collecting a volley from team captain James Chambers, he drove to the by line before cutting a pass to the penalty spot where Aidan Apodaca converted the chance for his first professional goal and Aaronson's first assist.

The Medford, N.J. native wasn't done as he notched a goal in the 71st minute to cap off his second start of 2018 with Steel FC. After a goal from Faris, the Cameroonian sparked a counter attack and played a squared pass across frame that Aaronson placed inside for the fourth and final goal of the contest. Aaronson's goal was the second tally in Steel FC history by an active member of the Philadelphia Union Academy, joining defender Ben Ofeimu.

Aaronson's accolade is the first of his career and Steel FC's seventh of 2018. Aaronson joins Drew Skundrich, Santi Moar, has appeared twice, Brandon Allen, Derrick Jones, Fabian Herbers and Chris Nanco as players to collect the league's weekly accolades in 2018.

Bethlehem Steel FC now turns its attention to a busy August schedule that sees the club play four times in a 17-day span. The slate begins with a two-game road trip that starts against the Richmond Kickers on Saturday, August 4. Kick off from City Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on Service Electric and ESPN+.
