Breaking Down the XI | Pereyra Starts
August 23, 2019 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Orlando City SC News Release
It's Rivalry Week in MLS and tonight Orlando City hosts Atlanta United at Exploria Stadium.
James O'Connor has a new weapon to play with as recent acquisition Mauricio Pereyra has been inserted into the starting lineup.
In goal, Brian Rowe will look to continue his incredible stretch of form. Rowe has made multiple key saves in Orlando's recent string of strong defensive performances.
In front of him, Kamal Miller, Robin Jansson, Lamine Sané, and Kyle Smith will form the backline. This group of four has performed well in the absence of João Moutinho and Ruan.
In the defensive midfield, Uri Rosell and Carlos Ascues will pair up again. The two provide excellent defense in the midfield as well as providing something going forward.
City's attacking midfield will consist of Nani, Mauricio Pereyra, and Benji Michel. Pereyra, who performed well after being subbed on at half against Minnesota, makes his first start since being acquired on July 30th. Pereyra most recently played in Russia for FC Krasnodar. He appeared in 201 games scoring 29 goals and recording 33 assists.
Up top, Tesho Akindele will look to build on what has been a career season. His 9 goals this season are a career high and he has chipped in two assists as well.
Starting XI: Rowe, Miller, Jansson, Sané, Smith, Rosell, Ascues, Nani, Pereyra, Michel, Akindele.
Bench: Dwyer, Grinwis, Johnson, Kljestan, Méndez, Mueller, O'Neill.
