Braves unveil opening day roster

Richmond, VA - The Richmond Braves roster is set for their International League season opener Thursday at Buffalo. The Braves 24 man active roster features 13 players who spent at least part of 2006 in Richmond.

The roster features nine players who saw major league service in 2007 and seven currently on Atlanta's 40-man major league roster. In addition to the 13 returnees from 2006, three other players have previous R-Braves experience (Buddy Hernandez, Trey Hodges, and Iker Franco).

Will Startup is the youngest R-Brave (22). Carlos Mendez is the oldest (32) beating Jonathan Johnson by a month. Only two players have no previous Triple-A experience (Barbaro Canizares and Yunel Escobar). There are players from six different nations on the squad (USA, Mexico, Venezuela, Cuba, Panama, and Australia).

Two players, RHP Blaine Boyer (oblique) and RHP Phil Stockman open the season on Richmond's disabled list.

Richmond's active roster:

Pitchers: Manny Acosta*, Kevin Barry, Buddy Carlyle, Steve Colyer, Kyle Davies*, Trey Hodges, Jonathan Johnson, Anthony Lerew*, Peter Moylan*, Rich Scalamandre, Will Startup.

Catchers: Iker Franco, Corky Miller.

Infielders: Barbaro Canizares, Yunel Escobar, Willie Harris, Carlos Mendez, Martin Prado*, Wes Timmons.

Outfielders: Gregor Blanco*, T.J. Bohn*, Doug Clark, Bill McCarthy.
