
Braves Strike Back Sunday

Pearl, MS - After getting blasted Saturday night, 1,913 fans saw the M-Braves respond with an inspired effort Sunday afternoon. The Braves got an outstanding outing from Jose Ortegano and the offense put six runs on the board in a 6-1 win.
The visitors got on the board in the third thanks to an error and a balk by the M-Braves. Callix Crabbe reached on an error by Brandon Hicks and stole second to move into scoring position. He moved to third on a balk by Jose Ortegano and scored on a fielder's choice Ezequiel Carrera.
Hicks made up for his error in the home-half of the third. He came to the plate with runners on first and second after Travis Jones' double and Matt Young's walk. Hicks ripped a ground-rule double to left that scored Jones to tie the score at one.
Mississippi took the lead in the sixth when Jose Camarena came through with two outs. Willie Cabrera led off with a single and moved to second on a passed ball. Greg Creek bunted him over to third and Camarena ripped double to left bringing Cabrera to the plate. After six, Mississippi led 2-1.
Matt Young got the M-Braves an insurance run in the seventh. He drew his team-high and Southern League-leading 91st walk and stole his team-record 41st bag to move into scoring position. He then stole third and scored on an errant throw to push the Braves lead to 3-1. Brandon Hicks walked and stole second to move into scoring position. Concepcion Rodriguez followed with a walk and Ernesto Mejia singled to right to load the bases. Cabrera then hit a sac-fly to center that scored Brandon Hicks from third. Rodriguez and Mejia tagged and moved up a bag and Rodriguez scored when Travis Garcia's throw to second missed its target and rolled to the D-Jaxx dugout. Mejia moved to third on the error and scored on a sac-fly by Creek. After seven, the Braves led 6-1.
Jose Ortegano gave up an unearned run on four hits over six innings and left the game with a 2-1 lead. Brett Butts threw three scoreless innings in relief to notch his fifth save.
Dan Cortes gave up two runs in six innings. Eric Hull gave up four runs, three earned, on one hit, three walks and two errors in one-third of an inning. Joe Newby threw 1.2 scoreless innings.
The M-Braves have only two home games remaining in 2009. Game four of this five-game series will be at Trustmark Park Monday night at 7:05. The Braves will send righty Ryne Reynoso to the hill against West Tenn's RHP Steve Bray.
On Dunkin' Donuts Monday, the first 500 customers to visit Dunkin' Donuts in Pearl the week of August 24th will receive two free tickets to the August 31st game. In addition, the next 1,500 customers to visit Dunkin' Donuts in Pearl the week of August 24th will receive two vouchers for $4 reserved seats or $2 berm seats for the August 31st game.
