Danville Otterbots News Release
DANVILLE, Va. - The pitchers were in control in Friday night's contest between the Braves and Cardinals, where a first inning run proved enough for Johnson City to earn the win. The bats started to come alive in the later portion of the contest, but, through six innings, each team was held to just three hits. Johnson City went on to earn the 1-0 win to take two out of three from the D-Braves.
Braves starter Luis Mora pitched six strong innings with six strikeouts. He allowed just three hits, but a wild pitch in the first inning allowed Johnson City to take an early lead after the Cardinals loaded the bases via two singles and a hit batsman.
Corbin Clouse pitched 1.2 innings of relief for Danville and recorded all five outs via strikeout. He now has 11 Ks on the season, tied with Kolby Allard for the highest mark among Braves pitchers.
Johnson City starter Jordan Hicks also hurled six innings and recorded six strikeouts with three walks. The Cardinals bullpen finished the job, with Ross Vance pitching 1.2 innings and Leland Tilley coming on in the bottom of the eighth to record the final out with the Braves threatening. Tilley remained in the game to pitch a scoreless ninth inning and earn the save.
Offensively, Marcus Mooney led the Braves with two hits, his fourth multi-hit game of the season.
The Braves open a four game series vs. Burlington Saturday night at 7pm. The teams will face off in Danville Saturday and Sunday before travelling to Burlington for two games. Saturday is Social Media Night at Legion Field, and fans are encouraged to follow the D-Braves on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat for chances to win prizes and participate in contests throughout the game. Additionally, there will be a Minion appearance from Soundwave Entertainment where fans can meet and take pictures with the lovable characters from Despicable Me and the Minions movie.
