Princeton WhistlePigs News Release
The Princeton Rays (5-4) lost their first series of the season on Friday night, dropping the series rubber match 5-2 to the Greenville Astros (3-6) at H.P. Hunnicutt Field.
The Rays lineup produced just three hits in the loss. Princeton took an early lead on a solo home run by right fielder Eleardo Cabrera in the first inning, but the Astros quickly fought back with two runs in both the second and third frames.
Astros starter Ricardo Castro pitched six innings, giving up two runs on three hits while striking out three. Greenville reliever Abdiel Saldana closed out the game for the visiting team with three shutout innings.
The other two Rays hits on the night came off of the bat of second baseman Robbie Tenerowicz, who hit a solo home run in the third, the first of his professional career after being drafted by Tampa Bay in the 27th round of the 2016 MLB draft. Tenerowicz later added a single to his tally for the game.
Rays starter Jose Disla pitched four innings and gave up four runs on six hits while striking out five Astros batters. Fellow Dominican Reimen Ramos followed up with three and two-thirds innings, giving up the final Greenville run of the night in the seventh inning.
The Rays 15th round selection from this year's draft, lefty Dalton Moats, finished the game on the mound for Princeton with one and one-third scoreless innings.
Princeton will now head out on a road trip beginning at 7 p.m. on Sat., July 2 against the Johnson City Cardinals in Johnson City, TN.
