Braves Drop Home Opener

Rome, GA - The Rome Braves fell to the Hagerstown Suns 3-2 Thursday night before 4,133 fans at State Mutual Stadium. It was the opening game of the season for both clubs.

Hagerstown took an early lead in the first inning on an RBI single Bryce Harper for the 1-0 score. It was Harper's first professional at bat, base hit, and RBI. The Suns added to the lead in the third. With runners on first and second Braves starter Carlos Perez tossed a wild pitch advancing Randolph Oduber to third but Harper was thrown out at second. On the throw Oduber was able to cross the plate increasing the lead to 2-0.

Rome tied the game in the sixth. Christian Bethancourt singled, stole second while Edward Salcedo walked. Jakob Dalfonso then laced a double down the right field line to score the base runners for the 2-2 tie.In the top of the seventh,

Hagerstown would retake the lead on a Jason Martinson RBI single for the 3-2 score. The Suns bullpen held the lead the rest of the way.

Taylor Jordan earns the victory (1-0) and Tyler Hess takes the tough loss (0-1). Ben Graham picks up his first save.
