Danville Otterbots News Release
DANVILLE, VA - The Braves took control of this one early, as they have done often in 2014. Danville put up two runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings this July evening, and along with possibly the best individual pitching performance of the year so far by Daniel Cordero, the Braves are clicking on all cylinders.
Cordero worked for six innings tonight, and demonstrated how to execute a perfect change up by pulling the string on several Burlington hitters. The only run given up by Cordero was on a solo home run by Amalani Fukofuka, the first batter of the game in a 1-2 count. After that blemish, Cordero went on to strike out six, walk two, and give up only one other hit to the Royals. Cordero's changeup had all the Royals batters way out in front all night, and that single pitch was the key to his success throughout the contest.
Danville center fielder Sean Godfrey had a great night at the dish, however it started off on an odd sequence. Godfrey doubled to left field, but managed to reach home on the play, thanks to two throwing errors; one on left fielder Logan Moon and one on first baseman Brandon Dulin. Godfrey finished the night 2-4, with the double, a run scored, and two RBI. Burlington's mistakes plagued them early and often, as they finished the game with five total errors.
Alejandro Piloto also had a night to remember at the plate, raising his batting average .102 points; giving him an average of .455 for the season. Piloto doubled twice, driving in two runs on his first double in the third scoring Godfrey and Omar Obregon, with Jordan Edgerton just barely getting tagged at the plate.
Danville (10-3) took the victory over Burlington (6-7) 10-5, however it wasn't that close for the majority of the game. Burlington comes back to Danville on Thursday for the second game of the four game set that will continue through Saturday, finishing in Burlington. The Royals-Braves matchup on Thursday, July 3rd is set for a 7:00 p.m. first pitch at American Legion Post 325 Field, and will include a special 4th of July fireworks celebration.
