Greeneville Astros News Release

Kingsport, TN - The Greeneville Astros (5-8) got back on the winning track on Tuesday night against the Kingsport Mets (6-7) at Hunter Wright Stadium. After dropping their previous five road contests, the Astros built a four-run lead and held on to win by a score of 4-3.

The initial run for the Astros came early in the first inning. After Jason Martin led off with a walk, Juan Santana doubled to move Martin over to third. Then, with Sean McMullen batting, Martin scored on a wild pitch.

Santana, who went three-for-five with two doubles on the night, led off the third inning with a bunt single and moved over to second on a throwing error. McMullen followed with a single to move Santana to third before he eventually scored on a ground out.

The next Astros run came when Jacob Nottingham hit a solo homer, his first of the season, to lead off the fourth inning.

In the sixth inning, the Astros and Mets each exchanged runs. First, Antonio Nunez had a RBI double for Greeneville to put them up 4-0. However, the Mets got a RBI single from Wuilmer Becerra to cut their deficit back to three.

One inning later, the Mets were threatening once again. With one out and the bases loaded after two base hits and a walk, the Mets got a two-run single by Pedro Perez on a ground ball up the middle into center field. The scores cut the lead to 4-3, but the Astros got a strike out and ground out over the next two batters to get out of the inning.

Over the final two innings, the Mets' only base runner got on with a fielding error as Aaron Greenwood and Zach Davis each pitched a scoreless inning to close the game. Davis, a left-handed sidearmer, was credited with his first save.

The winning pitcher was reliever Dean Deetz, who earned his first professional win as he entered the game in the fourth, pitched two innings, gave up one hit and struck out one. He followed a strong start by Keegan Yuhl, who gave up two hits and no runs with three strikeouts over the first three innings.

Following Wednesday's league-wide off day, the Astros' next game will take place on Thursday as they travel back to Kingsport for another game with the Mets. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00pm.
