
Braves Beat Rain, Power Outage, Clippers

Richmond, VA - The Richmond Braves beat the Columbus Clippers 6-2 in a game delayed by rain Thursday at The Diamond. Lance Cormier pitched six innings and had two hits to lead the Braves to a split of the two game series.
Columbus took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a Brent Abernathy RBI double. The Braves responded with three runs in the home half. Pete Orr smacked a leadoff homer and Wes Timmons chased two runs home with a single. The Braves tacked on two runs in the fourth to open up a 5-1 lead. Cormier knocked in a run with a sacrifice bunt and Martin Prado produced a run with a single. The Clippers scored in the sixth on a Michael Restovich double and a throwing error. The Braves added a run in the home half on another Prado RBI single. The game was delayed for 46 minutes by rain following the sixth inning. The Diamond was without power for much of the afternoon due to an earlier storm.
Cormier picked up his third win. Fruto took the loss. Prado and Timmons knocked in two runs each. Braves relievers Will Startup and Manny Acosta combined for five strikeouts in three innings.
