
Braves and Intimidators Split Twinbill

Rome, GA -The Rome Braves defeated the Kannapolis Intimidators 8-5 in game one Sunday afternoon and in game two Kannapolis handed the Braves a 14-6 defeat at State Mutual Stadium before a crowd of 2,485. There was a combined 33 runs scored between the two teams and 41 hits in the offensive slugfest. Game five of the series will be tomorrow at 7pm.
In game one the Braves put up eight runs in the first three innings for an comfortable early lead. Evan Gattis put together a 3-3 effort with four RBI to help lead the Braves' offense. Tommy La Stella had a clutch two RBI single in the third inning and Matt Lipka went 1-3 with two runs scored and two stolen bases. Kannapolis was lead at the plate by Trayce Thompson who went 3-4 with two RBI doubles and Dan Black also had a bases clearing three RBI double. Willie Kempf (5-3) earns the win for the Braves and Phil Negus (4-1) takes the loss for Kannapolis.
The second game of the afternoon was all Kannapolis as they pounded out fourteen runs on sixteen hits. Carlos Sanchez led the Intimidator offense with a 3-6 effort to go along with four RBI. Marcus Semien also recorded three hits and Keenyn Walker, Trayce Thompson, Rangel Ravelo, and Drew Lee all recorded multi hit games. Evan Gattis continued his hot afternoon for the Braves going 1-2 with two RBI. Rome starter Carlos Perez struggled early on and could not bounce back as he went only 2 2/3 innings and allowed nine runs on nine hits. Steven Upchurch (6-9) earns the win for Kannapolis and Carlos Perez (4-10) takes the loss for Rome.
