Bravehearts Slay Silver Knights with Game-Winning Hit

Worcester Bravehearts News Release

WORCESTER - All good things eventually come to end, but tell that to the Worcester Bravehearts.

With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Worcester infielder Darian Ramage hit an RBI double to score Connor Davis and give the Bravehearts their fourth consecutive win - a 5-4 walk-off victory against the Nashua Silver Knights on June 7 at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field.

Despite being outhit 9 to 5 against Nashua, the Bravehearts jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. With two runners on base, Worcester first baseman Shane Sandoval from Holy Cross hit a 2-RBI double scoring third baseman Mark DeYoung and left fielder Nick Nunziato. Designated hitter Brad Speek then followed Sandoval with an RBI double of his own, but thanks to an outfield overthrow by Nashua shortstop Quin Whalburg, Speek was awarded home plate for an unconventional inside-the-park home run.

Worcester starter Logan Fullmer threw five innings allowing only four hits and an earned run in his final inning. However, the Bravehearts' bullpen could not hold the lead, as the Silver Knights scored one run each in the fifth through eighth innings. Nashua pinch runner Carson Helms scored the tying run in the eighth inning when Bravehearts catcher Connor David threw a wild ball down to second trying to catch Nashua center fielder Griffin Garabedian stealing. But Helms took off from third and scored standing up.

Reliever Aaron Doughty got the win after he retired the Silver Knights in order in the top of the ninth to keep the game tied at 4-4. Nashua reliever Shawn Heide took the loss in two innings pitched.

The Bravehearts will conclude their four-game home stand, taking on the Seacoast Mavericks at 2:05 p.m. June 8 at Hanover Insurance Park. The first 500 kids at the game will receive free firemen helmets and the first 1,000 fans will receive free foam fingers courtesy of Southbridge Savings Bank.
