Worcester Bravehearts News Release
The Worcester Bravehearts won their fifth consecutive game to start off the 2014 season. The Bravehearts beat the Seacoast Mavericks by a score of 15-6.
The story of the game was the Bravehearts offense, which notched an unprecedented 18 hits against the Mavericks. The onslaught began in the first inning when Worcester scored five runs and they never trailed in the game after that.
The hot hitting actually began behind a couple of miscues by the Mavericks to start the game off. The first two batters of the game, Darian Ramage and Ian Strom both reached base on an error in the first inning, setting the Bravehearts up for the rest of the game. After that the bats woke up.
The Bravehearts best performers were third baseman Dylan Harris, who got his first 3 hits of the year and had 3 RBI, and Ian Strom who closed the game out with a bang, hitting a two run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Bravehearts their 15-6 lead.
The winning pitcher was Chris Dious, who pitched 2.1 innings in relief and had four strikeouts. Charlie Butler pitched a scoreless ninth inning to give the Bravehearts a 5-0 record and put them atop the Western Division.
The Bravehearts next game is a road game on Tuesday for a two game road trip before they come back home to Fitton Field on Thursday.
