Bravehearts drop second straight to Sharks

Worcester Bravehearts News Release
OAK BLUFFS - Though the Worcester Bravehearts jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the third inning, it wasn't enough to fend off the FCBL-leading Martha's Vineyard Sharks who scored nine unanswered runs to beat Worcester 9-4 on Sunday night, July 5 at The Shark Tank in Oak Bluffs.
The Bravehearts scored first when catcher Alex Sanchez (Galveston / New York, New York) hit a 2-RBI single in the third, and first baseman Bobby Dragon (Coppin St. / Ashtabula, Ohio) knocked in Sanchez with a 2-run home run.
Despite the four-run third inning, Sharks starter Matthew Tulley (Rollins College / Lowell) settled down and got the win after giving up only four runs on six hits while striking out seven in five innings of work.
The Sharks offense also returned the favor with six runs in the bottom half of the third inning. Center fielder Ryan Kelly (Salve Regina / Waldwick, New Jersey) and right fielder Donovan Casey (Boston College / Stratford, New Jersey) each hit 2-RBI singles before first baseman Jon Mayer (Bucknell / Dillsburg, Pennsylvania) hit a 2-run homer to give the Sharks at 6-4 lead. Catcher Domenic De Renzo padded the lead in the sixth inning with a 3-run home run.
Bravehearts starter Gus Culpo (Pittsburgh / Providence, Rhode Island) only gave up two hits in 2.1 innings, but was charged with the loss after surrendering five runs (four earned) with two walks and two strikeouts.
Center fielder Ian Strom (UMass Lowell / Hopedale) helped Worcester's offense in the leadoff spot, as he went 3-5 with one run scored.
The Bravehearts have a day off before returning to the diamond to face the Bristol Blues at 7:05 p.m. July 7 at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field. Tickets for all future Bravehearts games are available at the Hanover Insurance Field box office, online at worcesterbravehearts.com, or by calling 508-438-3773.
