Worcester Bravehearts News Release
WORCESTER - The Worcester Bravehearts came out victorious in a pitcher's duel against the Bristol Blues with a 3-2 on Friday night, July 17 at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field.
Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the 8th inning, shortstop Gavin Tristan (Lamar / Richmond, Texas) walked and stole second base with one out in the inning. With second baseman Derek Gibree (Saint Leo / Largo, Florida) at the plate, Tristan took off for third, and Gibree hit a ground ball that was bobbled by Blues second baseman Tyler Packanik, (Marietta / Plant City, Florida) and it allowed Tristan to score and tie the game.
Right fielder Willie Allen (Lewis & Clark State / Boston) smacked RBI single to left field to score Gibree and give the Bravehearts the go-ahead run.
Bristol scored both its runs off Bravehearts starter Greg Stagani (West Liberty / Richmond, Ohio) though both were unearned. Stagani went five innings and allowed four hits and stuck out six.
Blues starter Tim Cate (UConn / Manchester, Connecticut) was equally effective, as he allowed just one run on four hits in seven innings of work. Tate also struck out eight, but neither starter collected a decision. Reliever Ty Robinson took the loss, as he was charged with both runs in the 8th inning.
Bravehearts reliever Clayton Dostal (Galveston / Richmond, Texas) got the win and improved to 4-1 on the season, as he pitched four scoreless innings and gave up only two hits.
The Worcester Bravehearts play the second half of a home-and-home against the Bristol Blues at 7 p.m. Saturday night, July 18 on Muzzy Field in Bristol, Connecticut.
