LEOMINSTER, Mass. - It seemed the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs had an answer for just about everything the Worcester Bravehearts did in their matchup June 25 at Doyle Field.

For the first time this season, the Bravehearts gave up a ninth-inning lead and eventually lost an 8-7 contest to the Dirt Dawgs in 10 innings.

Wachusett tied the game on three separate occasions, and ultimately won the game in the 10th inning when Bravehearts pitcher Jordan Versteeg walked shortstop Richard Fecteau with the bases loaded to score the winning run. Fecteau led Wachusett going 2-5 with 3 RBIs in the game, and Versteeg took the loss in his first decision of the year.

Each team scored one run in the first inning and two runs in the second, but the Bravehearts took a 7-3 lead into the eighth inning looking to seal their fourth consecutive win. The Dirt Dawgs chipped away at the deficit in the eighth inning with a two-run home run by outfielder Joe Breen off Worcester reliever Jack Riley.

Despite finishing the inning for Riley, Worcester reliever Chris Dious came back in the ninth but surrendered another two-run home run to first baseman Mike Corin to tie the game 7-7. The Bravehearts loaded the bases against Wachusett reliever Ryan Venditti in the extra frame, but with the infield playing in, outfielder Jordan Berry grounded into a 5-2-3 double play to end the threat.

Venditti redeemed himself from the last matchup with the Bravehearts where he took the loss after surrendering a go-ahead home run to Bravehearts outfielder Ian Strom on June 7. After knocking in the game-winning run against the North Shore Navigators on June 24, Strom followed up with two hits and two RBIs. Strom hit a solo home run in the first inning and hit an RBI single in the second.

The Bravehearts compiled 13 hits collectively in the losing effort. Infielder Darian Ramage finished 3-6 at the plate, outfielder Nate Pajka hit 2-4 with 2 RBIs and shortstop Andy Lack went 2-5 with two runs scored.

Worcester concludes its road trip with a matchup against the Eastern Division-leading Brockton Rox at 7:05 p.m. June 26 at Campanelli Stadium.
