HAMILTON, ONT. - The Hamilton Bulldogs Hockey Club is pleased to announce that Barclay Branch has been named General Manager of the Sudbury Wolves. Subsequently, Branch has stepped down from his role as Assistant General Manager and Director of Player Personnel with the Bulldogs.
Branch, 39, served the past 11 seasons as Assistant GM and Director of Player Personnel for the Belleville Bulls and Hamilton Bulldogs. During that time he has directed the OHL Priority Selection. Over those years he selected elite players such as: PK Subban along with his brother Malcolm and Jordan, Brendan Gaunce, Eric Tangradi, and Brandon Saigeon. Over the past seven years the club has reached the Eastern Conference Finals four times and the Memorial Cup in 2008. Branch also serves as a Regional U17 Scout for Hockey Canada.
Branch says, "I want to thank George Burnett for being a great mentor for me. I'd also like to thank the ownership of the Hamilton Bulldogs and Belleville Bulls for providing me with the opportunity to work for them and enjoy success over the years."
Bulldogs General Manager and Head Coach George Burnett had spent 15 years working with Branch, "Barclay is well prepared, ready for the challenges he will face and very deserving of the opportunity to become a General Manager in the Ontario Hockey League. Sudbury will undoubtedly benefit from Barclay's excellent knowledge of the game, his outstanding work habits, his professionalism, and for the tremendous respect he has earned not only in the OHL but with Hockey Canada and throughout the National Hockey League. He has been a trusted friend and a huge part of our program during the past 15 seasons. On behalf of the Hamilton Bulldogs I want to thank him for his commitment and wish him success in his new role as General Manager of the Sudbury Wolves."
With the departure, Burnett adds the Bulldogs have already begun the process of completing the scouting staff, "We will announce something in the near future."
Hamilton begins the regular season September 25th as they take on the Knights in London. The home opener is set for September 26th against Oshawa at FirstOntario Centre.
