Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (December 7) - The Brahmas got outshot in Rio Grande Valley on Wednesday night, but a stellar performance from goaltender Mark Guggenberger gave Texas the 2-1 victory in a shootout.

After a scoreless first period, Adam Hogg put the Brahmas ahead in the second frame with a shorthanded goal on the only powerplay of the night for either team. For Hogg, it was his fifth goal - and second shorthanded goal - of the season.

The Killer Bees pulled even with the Brahmas in the third period behind Tomas Klempa's seventh goal of the season and fourth in as many games.

The Brahmas only got three shots on goal in the third period, tying a season low, but Guggenberger held strong and kept the score tied at one at the end of regulation.

After both teams failed to score in the extra frame, the game headed to a shootout, of which the Brahmas had won one and lost one entering Wednesday's game.

Brendon Hodge scored on the first shot for either team, and that was enough for Guggenberger as he shut the door on all four of the Bees' attempts. Kyle Howarth added a score in the shootout for good measure, but Hodge's goal served as the game-winner.

Bees' netminder Wylie Rogers had a good night, stopping 19 of the 20 shots he faced, but the Brahmas came away with the victory behind an even better night from Mark Guggenberger. The Texas goaltender made 29 saves on 30 shots fired by the Bees, and stopped all four attempts in the shootout. Guggenberger bettered his record to 6-1-1 on the season and lowered his goals against average to 2.18.

The Brahmas head home to face off against the Wichita Thunder on Friday, December 9th at 7:30pm at the NYTEX Sports Centre, when they will look to extend their win streak to four games.
