Brahmas Set Franchise Record in Win over Odessa

Saturday night provided the Lone Star Brahmas with the opportunity to run their home record to 17 straight games and their record against Odessa to 6 - 1 - 0 in front of a raucous crowd of 2,414 on Local Heroes Night.

Odessa jumped out to a lead on the power play at the 10:37 mark when Derek Brownsent one through traffic from the far point with assists going to Kenny Hausinger andAndrew McLean.

The Brahmas response was swift and emphatic as Liam Stirtzinger raced down the near side and pounded one off of Tanner Creel. Quinn Carroll put the rebound back on net before Peter Kessel stepped into the slot and put it under the Jackalopes' netminder at 11:03.

Odessa came right back with a shot by Razmuz Waxin-Engback from the near halfwall getting caught up in Alexey Solovyev's skates in front. Leo Lumm was there to poke it past TJ Black at 14:57. Lane Valimont had the secondary assist on the play.

Lone Star knotted the score at two just before the midpoint of the second period on the man advantage. Caleb Thompson took a pass from Sebastian Vidmar at the near halfwall then skated to the middle. Thompson delayed getting Valimont to drop for the block then pulled it around the prone defender and put it top shelf with Solovyev getting the second assist. The goal was Thompson's first of the season. Following a blown hand pass call against Lone Star they set up for a draw to Creel's left. Stirtzinger pulled the faceoff back to Kessel who settled the bouncing puck and fired it from the far point. The Jackalopes' goalie got a glove on it, but left the rebound in the paint forQuinn Carroll to deposit in the net. Time of the goal was 14:16.

Carroll got his second of the evening on a tap in at 6:23 of the final frame. After Stirtzinger pulled it off the end boards and sent it out front to Johan Steen for a wrister off of Creel. With just over eight minutes gone, TJ Black set it up for Thompson behind the Lone Star goal. Thompson spotted Vidmar at the Odessa blueline and fired a homerun pass that sent Vidmar into the zone down the far wall. Vidmar skated it to the middle, flew through the crease and tucked it past the left skate.

The 17 game home win streak is a franchise record. Lone Star out shot the Jackalopes 28 - 22 and both teams were 1 - 4 on the power play.
