Brahmas Fall Short in 4-3 Loss in Wenatchee

March 21, 2015 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Lone Star Brahmas News Release

The Lone Star Brahmas were in Wenatchee to face the Wild on Friday night where the pace of the game early on the big ice proved to be their undoing.

Sebastian Vidmar did get the Brahmas on the board at 11:42 of the opening period after taking a breakout pass form Caleb Thompson to the top of the left wing circle and ripped it past Zach Quinn.

It took the Wild just over three minutes to respond. Jacob Hamacher controlled the puck in the neutral zone and slid it to Stevie Bryant heading down the left side. Bryant put it back across ice to Donovan Ott just off the far post for a shot on goal. TJ Blackslid across to get a good part of the shot, but it managed to get past him and bounce across the goal line at 14:58.

The Brahmas managed to escape the first period in a one all tie despite being outshot 11 - 3 in the period.

Black faced a three on one with just over 10 minutes gone in the second and made a big save with the right pad, but Ludvig Larsson was whistled for a slash to put the Wild on the power play. It did not take long for Wenatchee to cash in. Colin Burston got the play started moving the puck from the near point to August Von Ungern-Sternberg at the center blueline. His pass found Tyler Rockwell in the left circle. Rockwell used Anton Santesson as a screen to put it past Black short side at 11:14. With just 1:56 to go Ryan Chaisson worked the puck off the far halfwall through a couple of Brahmas defenders where he lost control. David Powlowski found the loose puck on his tape and put it top shelf for a two goal lead.

Wenatchee snagged another power play goal just past the midpoint of the third. Chiasson sent the puck from the top of the near circle to Kyle Stephan just off the near post. He spotted Powlowski on the back door and he put it over Black as he slid across the crease.

However, down three the Brahmas were not about to roll over. Just a few moments later they made a rush up ice with Roman Uchyntaking it behind the net out the far side and slid a centering pass to Chad Guderian who had a wide open net, but the puck jumped over his blade eliminating the chance. The Brahmas went on the power play at 12:27 and almost scored immediately off the draw. After a huge save by Quinn, Lone Star settled things down and went to cycling the puck. Santesson handled the puck and gave it to Johan Steen up top as the two changed places along the blueline. Steen fed Larsson at the top of the near circle for a wrister into the net at 13:11. It took the Brahmas only 42 seconds to pull within one started with a hustle play by Oskar Andren who blew past a Wild player to negate an icing call. Andren punched the puck to Guderian in the far corner and he sent it up top to Alexey Solovyev . Solovyev ripped one off the cross bar that fell in the paint and Andren pounded it home.

The Wild doubled up the Brahmas in shots on goal 30 - 15. Lone Star was 1 - 5 on the power play while allowing Wenatchee to go 2 - 5.
