Corpus Christi IceRays News Release
ODESSA, TEXAS "" The Corpus Christi IceRays (30-23-5) did not have enough gas left in the tank playing down two players in their 4-1 loss to the Odessa Jackalopes (14-37-7) on Saturday night from the Ector County Coliseum. The IceRays finish their schedule against the Jackalopes with a 10-2-0 record and drop their second weekend set of March.
For the third-straight evening, the Jackalopes placed the first goal on the board, this one coming at 7:17 off a hard slapshot by forward Kenny Hausinger from the right circle to give Odessa a 1-0 lead. A few minutes later at 11:53, Jackalopes forward Razmuz Waxin-Engback found a feed from Hausinger and lifted the puck top shelf from the left circle to double the lead, 2-0. The IceRays were able to answer the bell at 19:25 of the opening frame when forward Wes Michaud tried to center into the slot but bounced the puck off the back end of Jackalopes netminder Tanner Creel to cut the lead in half, 2-1.
The middle frame only brought one more tally, but it came off the stick of Hausinger for his second of the night at 4:13 of the second period to double back the Jackalopes lead, 3-1. The IceRays went on the power play for the first time on the weekend in the period, breaking a stretch of 154:59 minutes without a chance on the power play. Both chances were thwarted by the Jackalopes and kept the teams separated by two.
The Jackalopes added another goal in the third period at 8:19 with a breakaway by forward Hampus Sjodahl through the IceRays defense and in for a 4-1 lead. The IceRays had three and one half chances on the power play in the third period but could not scratch one across as the scoreline stands, 4-1. Jackalopes goaltender Tanner Creel (7-16-3) gets the win, stopping 34 of 35 shots, while IceRays netminder Andrew Lindgren (22-16-3) grabs the loss, saving 24 of 28 shots.
The IceRays return home for the last time in the 2014-15 regular season on Friday, March 27 at 7:05 p.m. to begin a two-game set against the Amarillo Bulls from the American Bank Center on Teen Night, presented by Whataburger.
