Keystone Ice Miners News Release
CONNELLSVILLE, PA - For the second time this week, the Ice Miners entered the 3rd period up 1-0, and for the second time they walked away with a 4-1 victory. Garrett Hallford, Matt Jones, Lordanthony Grissom, and Austin Romzek netted goals while Alex Blankenburg stopped 41 shots as the Ice Miners ended the Michigan Warriors' five game winnins streak.
It was Hallford opening the scoring at the 9:19 mark of the 2nd period with his eighth goal of the season following an opening frame that saw Keystone outshot 16-7. Hallford, set up by linemates Noah Batis and Joey Sofo, was able to elevate a backhand over a sprawling Michigan netminder, Ryan Wischow. The score was 1-0 after two period.
In the third period, the Ice Miners added insurance early when Matt Jones picked the pocket of Cam Jorgenson and beat Wischow, all in one motion for an unassisted goal at 1:22. Lordanthony Grissom then collected his 2nd goal in as many games, unleasing a shot that Wischow never saw slide by his glove side. Jacob Coleman added the only helper at 7:51. Just 41 seconds later, Austin Romzek took a feed from Jones and made a backhand move on Wischow to open a 4-0 margin.
Alex Blankenburg had his shutout bid ended at 18:19 when Anthony Parucci put away a scrambled puck in the slot, the lone Michigan goal of the game. Blankenburg's win was his 16th. Wischow made 41 saves in the loss. In Johnstown, the Tomahawks blanked the Soo Eagles, 3-0, pushing the Ice Miners one point ahead of Soo for 2nd place in the North, and simultaneously dropping the Warriors elimination nimber for eight points to four.
The Ice Miners and Warriors complete the weekend and season series with a 7:30 PM faceoff on Saturday night at the Ice Mine. Tickets can be purchased online at keystoneiceminershockey.com or at the door, beginning at 6:30.
