Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

A come from behind effort by the Fort Worth Brahmas came up just short on Saturday night in Corpus Christi as the Rayz scored two goals in the final 55 seconds of regulation to defeat the Brahmas 4-2.

With the game tied at 2 and under a minute to play, the Rayz' Derrick McIver stunned the Brahmas when his shot from the left of the Brahmas goal crease slipped through the legs of Fort Worth goaltender Larry Sterling. McIver's 22nd goal of the season with just 55 seconds showing on the clock proved to be the game winning goal. Corpus Christi then iced the game on winger Jay McKay's empty net with 29 seconds left.

The late offensive outburst by the Rayz spoiled a third period rally by Fort Worth. Playing with just 13 skaters for the majority of the night, a gutty Brahmas squad managed to tie the game at 2 at the 9:13 mark of the third when Fort Worth center Aaron Davis scored an unassisted goal after intercepting a Rayz clearing pass deep in the Corpus Christi zone.

The game then appeared to be headed to overtime before McIver's dramatic game winning goal.

Martin Paquet scored the other Brahma goal in the game. Jason Baird and Greg Bullock also scored for Corpus Christi.

Sterling took the loss in net for Fort Worth despite making 36 saves on 39 Rayz shots. Rayz netminder Brent Zelenewich turned away 24 of the 26 Brahmas shots he faced in the game to earn the win.

The loss drops the Brahmas record to 20-15-4 on the season. Fort Worth will remain in third place in the CHL's Northeast Division. The Brahmas will next play on Friday, Feb. 4 in Topeka. For additional information, please contact the Brahmas team office at (817) 336-4423.
