SOUTHAVEN---Oklahoma City All-Star Michel Beausoleil scored two as his team built a 3-0 lead on their way to 4-2 victory over the Memphis RiverKings in front 4,555 at the DeSoto Civic Center Friday night. Beausoleil's goals were his 29th and 30th of the season. Defensemen Derek Landmesser and Peter Robertson scored for the RiverKings who fell three points behind the Blazers in the battle to escape the cellar in the Northeast Division.
Beausoleil's first tally broke a scoreless tie at 14:41 of the first period and, when he scored his second at 12:40 of the second, the Blazers were up 3-0. It wasn't 3-0 on the board for long as Landmesser, who turned 30 on Thursday, pretzeled Blazers net-minder Sean Connors on a break just 28 seconds after the Beausoleil goal. Travis Banga and Allan Carr assisted.
With the score 3-1 and a third period comeback in reach for Memphis, Oklahoma City's Ryan Power dialed one in on a nice Pat Hallett centering pass from behind the net to make it 4-1.
Robertson made it a two goal game again at 17:48 with his second goal in his first three games for the RiverKings. With it a two goal margin in the final minutes, one could not help but recall the two-goals-in-the-final-38-seconds comeback on December 5 against this Blazers club. And despite some good chances in the waning moments, there would be no déjà vu and Oklahoma City finished with a 4-2 win, their fifth win in their last six games. Connors has been the starting and winning goalie in all five of those wins as he made 33 saves in this win to get the win and improve to 10-7-4 on the season. J.F. Racine took the loss for Memphis and is 7-6-1.
The RiverKings host the defending President's Cup Champion Laredo Bucks tomorrow night in their one and only visit to the DeSoto Civic Center. Game time is 7:05 and it is Miller Lite Nascar Night with an appearance by Rusty Wallace's Show Car.
