NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - The Lone Star Brahmas remained unbeaten with a 3-2 comeback win in overtime to defeat the Corpus Christi IceRays, 3-2, at NYTEX Sports Centre.
The IceRays (3-1-1-2, 9 pts.) had a 2-1 lead erased late in the third period when Joey Baez scored with 2:16 remaining, then Josh Martin scored the game-winning goal for the Brahmas (5-0-0-0, 10 pts.) just over two minutes into overtime. Andrew DeCarlo assisted on both goals.
The IceRays have had five of their first seven games of the season require overtime and have earned at least one point in six of seven games.
Corpus Christi's Artur Turansky started the scoring at the 7:49 mark of the first period, deflecting in a point shot from defenseman Tod Philibert.
In the final minute of the first period, CJ Walker scored for the Brahmas, marking the first power-play goal surrendered by the IceRays in 17 shorthanded situations this season.
Evan Carroll regained the lead for the IceRays 7:15 into the second period, cashing in on a cross-ice feed from Shane Bull.
Lone Star pressured offensively, including hitting the crossbar and right post on a pair of chances in the third period, and eventually found the game-tying goal on Baez's shot from the top of the left circle.
In overtime, IceRays goaltender Jeremy Forman made a highlight-reel save with the glove to deny Matt Guerra. Moments later, DeCarlo spun a puck to Martin in the slot, setting up the clincher.
Lone Star outshot Corpus Christi by a 30-14 margin. The South Division rivals rematch Saturday at NYTEX Sports Centre at 7:30 PM CT.
Next weekend, Corpus Christi heads to Odessa for a three-in-three weekend against the Odessa Jackalopes prior to the IceRays' home opener against the Jackalopes on Thursday, Oct. 10.
