Brahmas bring Nick Udovicic to Fort Worth

August 5, 2004 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

Fort Worth-Fort Worth Brahmas' head coach Al Sims was busy Thursday afternoon, making a player trade with the Tulsa Oilers.

The Brahmas acquired the rights to center Nick Udovicic (YOU-doe-vis-ik) from the Oilers in exchange for the rights to defenseman Scott English.

Udovicic, 6'1", 210, will come to Fort Worth for his second year of professional hockey. In 2003-2004, his rookie season, he split time with two CHL teams, the Corpus Christi Rayz and the Tulsa Oilers. He was recruited to Corpus Christi by Al Sims when Sims was the head man of the Rayz. He skated in the first 39 games of the season for Corpus, scoring 12 goals and assisting on 9 others. A late January trade sent Udovicic to Tulsa where he played in 14 games for the Oilers, totaling three points on one goal and two assists. His season total of 24 points (13G/11A) was the sixteenth most among CHL rookies in the 2003-2004 campaign.

A native of the hockey rich community of Burnaby, British Columbia, Udovicic prepped for his professional career with three years (2000-2003) of collegiate hockey at the University of Findlay (NCAA Div. III-CHA). While wearing the orange and white of the Oilers, Udovicic played in 79 games, scoring 21 goals and helping on 16 others. His best individual season at Findlay came in 2002-2003 when he netted 10 goals and picked up 16 assists.

Sims, who will be entering his first full season as the Brahmas bench boss in October, is excited about the potential that Udovicic possesses.

"Nick is a strong, rangy, physical forward. He has good size and good hands. He showed last year that he can score at the professional level. I definitely believe he will be an offensive asset for our team," he said.

The rights to Scott English will now be shifted to Tulsa. Last season, English played in 63 games for the Brahmas and led the team with 324 penalty minutes. He also scored one goal and picked up two assists.

The Brahmas will open their eighth season in franchise history and their fourth in the CHL in late October of 2004. Season tickets for the 2004-2005 season are on sale now. For more information, please contact the Brahmas office at (817) 336-4423.
