Kings trade Galway for Maxwell
August 5, 2004 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Lubbock Cotton Kings News Release
LUBBOCK, TX â Lubbock Cotton Kings Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Chris Dashney announced today the acquisition of Jason Maxwell from the Amarillo Gorillas in exchange for the rights to defenseman Jerry Galway.
Maxwell, 5-11, 185 pounds will enter his second year as a professional after playing 58 games last season for the Gorillas. Prior to playing in the Central Hockey League, he skated four years for the University of Findlay in Ohio. In 124 games with the Oilers, Maxwell posted 38 goals and 73 points.
"It was obvious to me that Jerry (Galway) did not want to return to Lubbock," said Dashney. "Jason Maxwell was available from Amarillo and we jumped on the chance. His experience in the Southwest Division will be a valuable asset for us this season."
Maxwell, a native of North Vancouver, British Columbia, was part of the Amarillo Gorillas squad that defeated the San Angelo Saints in the fifth game in a best-of-five game series and advanced to the conference finals against the eventual champion Laredo Bucks. The Gorillas lost in six games to the Bucks after winning two of the first three games in the series.
In 58 regular season games with the Gorillas, Maxwell posted eight goals and 25 points. He tallied four helpers in the playoffs and one goal â the eventual game-winner in the first game against the Saints.
