Bradenton Juice News Release
June 25, 2007 - Port Charlotte, FL- For the first time in 21 games the Bradenton Juice returned to Florida and they got a spectacular game on the mound, at the plate, and in the field as they defeated the Redfish 12-0. While four Juice hitters got two hits starting pitcher Rocky Collis stole the show pitching a complete game one-hitter, allowing the lone hit with two outs in the 9th inning.
Bradenton scored first in the 3rd inning scoring four times. Brenan Herrera led off the inning with a single to left field, three batters later Luke Barganier was hit by a pitch and Julius Thames followed with an infield single that drove home Herrera. Next Al Corbeil walked and that loaded the bases for Eddie Kim who drew a walk and that made it 2-0 Juice. The next batter Mikela Olsen smacked a single to right field driving home Thames and Corbeil making it 4-0 Juice.
Bradenton scored again in the 4th when Brenan Herrera lifted his 3rd home run over the left field wall putting the Juice up 5-0.
The Juice scored again in the 5th when Julius Thames hit a leadoff single to left field and Al Corbeil followed with a single to right field. Then Eddie Kim hit a double over the head of center fielder Millard Dawson that scored Thames and Corbeil making it 7-0 Juice.
After the Juice tacked on two more runs in the 5th making it 9-0 the relentless Bradenton attack continued with 3 more runs coming across in the 8th. With one-out Nick Corbeil walked and then pitcher Rocky Collis hit an infield single. Luke Barganier then singled to right field and Julius Thames grounded out to first base scoring Nick Corbeil. After his brother Nick scored, Al Corbeil singled to left field driving home Collis making it 10-0 Juice. Eddie Kim drove in the final run of the game with a single to center field driving in Barganier making it 11-0 Bradenton.
On the mound for the Juice RHP Rocky Collis (2-3) was nothing short of spectacular as he had everything working on Monday night. Collis had a no-hitter with two-outs in the 9th but the Redfish's Jose Gutierrez singled to center field breaking up the no-no. The next batter P.J. Lehmann popped out to the end the game giving Collis the second complete game one-hitter in team history. Lavelle Morgan threw the other complete game one-hitter on June 7th at Aiken. Collis pitched 9 innings, allowed 0 runs on 1 hit, walked 2 and he struck out 11 batters. Collis now has 51 strikeouts this year and that is the most in the South Coast League.
Aaron Easton (1-4) took the loss for Charlotte County as he pitched 4 innings, allowing 5 runs (all earned) on 4 hits, he walked 2 and struck out 3.
Of note for the Juice at the plate Julius Thames, Al Corbeil, Eddie Kim, and Brenan Herrera each had 2 hits apiece. Kim drove in four runs with a double, a single, and a walk. Herrera got a single and he also hit the lone homer of the game in the 4th inning.
A good pitching matchup is set for Tuesday with a battle of two lefties. Bradenton's Lavelle Morgan (3-2) faces LHP Daniel Chaffardet (1-4) who on May 30th vs. Bradenton went 6 innings, allowing a run on 4 hits, walking two, and striking out 5 batters as he got the win in the 7-4 Redfish victory.
