Joes Fall in Rain-Shortened Game, 3-0

June 25, 2007 - South Coast League (SCL)
Anderson Joes News Release

Mother Nature had her way with the Anderson Joes on Monday, initially delaying the start of Anderson's game with the South Georgia Peanuts by one hour and then costing Anderson a 3-0 loss with the game in progress in the sixth inning.

With Heath Keel at the plate and runners at second and third base with two outs, home plate umpire Tyler Simpson immediately called a suspension of the game once the deluge began. It had rained from approximately 4:30 in the afternoon until 7:30 p.m. in Anderson, but the rain had held off throughout the course of the game.

After nearly 20 minutes of continuous and heavy rainfall in the sixth, however, Simpson and crew mate Tom Height made the decision to end the contest. Despite the situation at the time, Anderson's (7-26) inning was suspended and the game was ruled a win in favor of South Georgia (23-8).

The Peanuts scored twice in the top of the first inning, with a Steve Garrabrants sacrifice fly and a John Zeringue RBI single driving in the runs. In the top of the sixth, South Georgia tacked on one more when Zeringue hit a sac fly to drive Garrabrants in.

Joes pitcher Tyler Addison took the loss, dropping to 1-4 on the year. He pitched six complete innings, allowing three runs, five hits and one walk while striking out a season-best six.

Dustin Taylor earned his fourth win of the year against one loss for South Georgia, throwing 5.2 shutout innings. He allowed five hits while walking none and striking out six.

The Joes and Peanuts have a scheduled game for 11:05 a.m. Tuesday, but there has been no decision yet as to whether the field will return to playable conditions by then.
