Bradenton Wins In Extras Starting Off Second Half Of Season

Anderson, SC- The Bradenton Juice started the second half of the season in style with a 5-3 win over the Anderson Joes in 12 innings. The Juice got solid pitching and timely hitting to knock off the Joes for the 6th time in 7 contests.

The Joes got the scoring started in the 2nd inning when Billy Hogan hit a solo homerun over the left field wall. Two batters later Kevin Noles doubled to left field and the next batter Blake Gailen smacked a single to center field that drove home Noles making it 2-0 Anderson.

Bradenton scored first in the 6th when with one out Eddie Kim was hit by a pitch and the next batter Mikela Olsen reached on an error. With runners on the corners Noah Peery hit a sacrifice fly to center field plating Kim making cutting the deficit to 2-1.

The Juice tied the game in the 7th when pinch hitter Jean Castro drew a hard fought walk and the next batter Luke Barganier singled to left field. With runners on first and second base Julius Thames singled to left driving home Castro tying the game at 2.

The teams were scoreless until the 10th inning when the Juice's Al Corbeil hit a solo homer over the left field wall putting Bradenton up 3-2.

Anderson countered the Juice in the 10th when with two outs Hector Borg singled to right field and after reaching second base on a passed ball he scored on a Tanner Rogers single to right field.

Despite relinquishing the lead Bradenton did not give up when pitcher Jim O'Malia led off the 12th by drawing a walk then Luke Barganier moved him to second on a sacrifice bunt. Then Julius Thames drew a walk before Al Corbeil hit a clutch two-run double down the first base line that barely stayed fair driving in O'Malia and Thames putting the Juice up 5-3.

Jim O'Malia (4-3) pitched a perfect 12th inning to seal the win for Bradenton while Dave Whitfield (1-1) takes the loss for Anderson.

Travis Kane started for the Juice going 5.1 innings allowing 2 runs (all earned), on 7 hits, he walked one and struck out 5 batters. Jan Granado also had a solid outing for Anderson as he went 7 innings, allowing 2 runs, 1 earned on 6 hits, he walked one and struck out 7 batters.

Of note for the Juice Al Corbeil went 2-6 and he made those 2 hits count with a solo homer in the 10th and a 2-RBI double to right field that were the go-ahead runs in the 12th inning. Corbeil increased his team leading home run total to 7 and team leading RBI count to 37. Julius Thames also had 2 singles, an RBI, and he scored a run while Noah Peery had a double a sacrifice fly to center field in the 6th.

Bradenton is now 1-0 and off to a great start in the second half of the season while Anderson is 0-1. Overall the Juice are 25-20 while Anderson is 13-33.

LHP Brian Gartley (3-1) will get the start for Bradenton on Tuesday, as the Juice will go for the series win over the Joes.
