South Georgia Peanuts News Release
The South Georgia Peanuts, presented by Security Bank, won in dramatic fashion Tuesday night 8-6. The Peanuts had only one hit through six innings but finally broke through with five runs in the bottom of the eighth to get the win.
For the second night in a row, Aiken scored first by putting up two runs in the top of the second inning. The Peanuts scored their first runs of the night in the bottom the third inning. After Aiken Pitcher Reid Price walked Doc Brooks and Nick Prosise to lead off the inning. Chris Demons put down a perfect bunt base-hit. Price attempted to throw Demons out but threw high, which resulted in Brooks and Prosise scoring and Demons moving to third. Demons was then sacrificed home by Johnny Washington.
The Foxhounds tied it up at three in the fifth when Kelly Hunt sacrificed Scott Houin in from third. The Foxhounds then took a three-run lead in the seventh. Garth McKinney hit a two run home run with no one out and Hunt hit a solo shot with one out. For Hunt, it was his second home run of the night.
The Peanuts tried to come back in the bottom of the frame by getting the first two hits since Demons' bunt single in the third but the team left the runners stranded. The wheels came off for Aiken in the eighth. With one out, Mike Caruso and Doc Brooks both hit RBI singles. Nick Prosise then reached on an error that scored both Caruso and Brooks. Brooks scored after a collision at the plate with Aiken catcher Jeff Timmons which was one of the most violent collisions one will ever see. Brandon Woolard went on to single Prosise in from third as the Peanuts scored five runs in the frame.
Dumas Garcia got the start and pitched well for the Peanuts. He allowed three runs on seven hits with six strikeouts. Jake Upwood got his fourth win of the season pitching one inning and allowing just one hit. Drew Shetrone picked up his third save by working a perfect ninth.
