Idaho Stampede News Release
Boise, ID - January 5, 2007 - Members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Ada County will go shopping for clothes with players from the Idaho Stampede at the Meridian Wal-Mart store. Beginning at 5 PM on January 11, boys and girls will be paired with a Stampede player, coach and other Stampede staff members to shop for clothes.
The "Klothes for Kids" program allows Club members who have demonstrated outstanding citizenship and leadership skills at the Club to shop for clothes at either the Meridian or Garden City Wal-Mart stores based on the location of their respective Clubhouse. The idea for the program came from Barbara Troxell, a long time investor and friend of the Club. Members will purchase pants, shirts, coats, shoes and with parent permission, makeup and jewelry. Colleen Braga, Boys & Girls Clubs of Ada County Executive Director states, "One of the keys to success for kids is feeling good about themselves. Having clothes that fit well and are in good condition can help kids feel that they can succeed in the classroom, at the Club and in life."
Wal-Mart, the exclusive partner with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Ada County for this program, will also contribute back to the program to help leverage the monies and allow more Club members to participate. Meridian Wal-Mart Store Manager James Miller has this to say about the program "We are proud to partner with the Boys & Girls Club. We have been working with the Boys & Girls Club on projects for years and this stands to have the greatest impact on the kids that participate and we are very happy to be a part of helping our community."
With pre-season camps and in-season basketball practices at the Moseley Center in Garden City, the Idaho Stampede is quite familiar with the Club and their mission. Head Coach Bryan Gates on the program, "You should see that Club when the kids are there. It is packed and the kids there that are having fun and work hard at taking care of each other too. To reward kids for their hard work and good citizenship is a no-brainer."
The program, slated to run for a full year, will help kids learn to shop wisely, reward them for good character and help ensure they are dressed for success.
