
Bowie Baysox 2007 Opening Day Roster Announced

Bowie, MD - The Baltimore Orioles announced the Bowie Baysox Season Opening Day roster on Wednesday. Nine returnees from 2006 highlight the roster, which also includes one former first-round draft picks and three of the Orioles' top ten prospects.
Among the nine players who will return to Bowie to start the 2006 campaign are pitchers Beau Hale, who will start the season opener at Trenton on Thursday. Craig Anderson, Radhames Liz, Cory Morris and James Hoey, who played at every farm level last season (Low A - AAA) and made his Major League debut with the Orioles, will be the Baysox closer to start the season. Joining the Baysox pitching staff for 2007 will be newcomers Fredy Deza, Rommie Lewis and David Haehnel, all of whom helped anchor the pitching staff for High-A Frederick in 2006. Jim Miller also joins the Baysox staff from the Rockies organization. Miller was acquired along with pitcher Jason Burch for Rodrigo Lopez this past off-season.
Only four position players on the 2007 roster played in Bowie last season. C Ryan Hubele, INF Gera Alvarez, 3B Bryan Bass, and OF Jeff Fiorentino are the only links in the field from the 2006 squad.
Under the leadership of first year manager Bien Figueroa, the 24-man roster also features 14 newcomers, to the team. Only two players on the 2006 roster have ties to the Baysox aside from the 2005 roster. Catcher Eli Whiteside and OF Val Majewski both have ties to the Baysox. Majewski was an Eastern League All-Star in 2004 as a member of the Baysox and batted .307 in 112 games, while Whiteside was a member of Baysox over parts of the 2003 and 2004 seasons.
The Bowie Baysox will enter its 15th season as the "AA" affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles in 2007. The Baysox will open their 2007 home schedule on Thursday, April 12th against the Akron Aeros (Class "AA" Affiliate of the Cleveland Indians) at Prince George's Stadium in Bowie, MD.
