Bradenton Marauders News Release
LAKELAND, Fla. - A fourteen-hit attack, including a go-ahead three-run homer by Jase Bowen, lifted the Marauders over the Lakeland Flying Tigers, 7-2, on Wednesday night at Publix Field.
The win was the third straight for the Marauders (6-5, 35-41), the team's first three-game win streak since taking three in a row against Dunedin April 26 through 28.
An Izaac Pacheco solo home run in the first put Lakeland (6-4, 38-38) in front early, but Marauders starter Joelvis del Rosario held the Flying Tigers scoreless in the second and third innings before turning the game over to the bullpen.
Wyatt Hendrie led off the top of the second with a solo homer to tie the score, 1-1, for Bradenton. After Flying Tigers right-hander Garrett Burhenn held the Marauders scoreless in the next two innings, Bradenton's bats jumped on Burhenn in the fifth. Back-to-back one-out singles by Jasiah Dixon and rehabbing Pirates outfielder Greg Allen set up a go-ahead, three-run homer by Jase Bowen for a 4-1 Marauders lead.
Allen played left field for the Marauders and made three plate appearances, going 1-for-2 with a single and a hit-by-pitch.
Burhenn finished with eight strikeouts over six innings for Lakeland but took the loss, surrendering four runs on nine hits.
Bradenton rallied for three more runs in the seventh against Flying Tigers reliever Angel Reyes, as Deivis Nadal recorded an RBI-single and Maikol Escotto contributed a two-run single to boost the visitors' lead to 7-1.
Right-hander Kelvin Disla pitched a scoreless fourth in relief in his Single-A debut for Bradenton, earning the win. Mitchell Miller, Jack Hartman, Yunior Thibo, and Dante Mendoza combined for shutdown relief the rest of the way for the Marauders, with Lakeland's final run coming off a fielding error by Escotto at shortstop in the bottom of the eighth.
Eight of nine players in the Marauders' starting lineup recorded a hit, while all nine reached base safely. The team's 14 hits in the game were one shy of the club's season-high. Bowen led Bradenton with three hits, matching his season-high, while Escotto, Hendrie, and Tsung-Che Cheng finished with two hits each.
The series continues Thursday with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Publix Field. The Marauders have yet to announce their starting pitcher, while Lakeland will start RHP Nick Davila.
