Bowden Hits Clutch Homer in Win

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts (67-32) beat the Kansas City T-Bones (40-59) 4-3 at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Johnny Bowden hit a two-out, two-run home run to left field in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Wichita a 4-3 lead. C.J. Ziegler started the rally with a one-out single to right and went to third on Abel Nieves' single to center.

Pitching on a fourth consecutive day, Josh Dew closed out the game in the top of the ninth to earn his 27th save of the year. Dew stranded the tying run on third base when Justin Bass popped out to Ziegler in foul territory.

Trevor Coleman lined a two-out, RBI single to center in the top of the third to give Kansas City a 1-0 lead.

The Wingnuts responded in the bottom half after there were two outs and no one on base. John Rodriguez legged out a double on a line drive to right field. Ziegler reached on an infield single when he beat out a high chopper to the right of the mound and then took second on a wild pitch. Nieves made it 2-1 Wichita with a ground rule double over the right-center field wall.

Kansas City re-gained the lead in the top of the sixth. Back-to-back doubles from Petey Paramore and Luis Rivera tied the game at 2-2. Anthony Davis' groundball single to center scored Rivera with the go-ahead run.

Erik Lambe earned the win in relief for Wichita with two perfect innings.

Kansas City starter Rick Zagone took the loss, allowing four earned runs on 12 hits in seven and two-thirds innings. Zagone walked three and struck out three.

Anthony Capra started for the Wingnuts and took a no-decision. Capra allowed three earned runs on nine hits in six innings, walked one, and struck out 10. Capra struck out eight of the T-Bones' nine starters.

Nieves heads into the final day of the regular season with a league-leading .355 batting average. Sioux Falls' Nick Van Stratten ranks second at .346, while Winnipeg's Ryan Scoma is third at .343. Ziegler heads into Monday with an American Association-best 30 home runs and 98 RBI. Sioux Falls' Tim Pahuta ranks second with 29 home runs. John Rodriguez is second with 86 RBI.

The regular season concludes with a 5:05 p.m. game Monday evening against the T-Bones. James Giulietti faces right-hander Ethan Cole.

The 2013 American Association Division Series begins Wednesday, September 4th. The Wingnuts will face the winner of the South Division. Wichita hosts Game Three of the series on Friday, September 6th as well as the "if necessary" Games Four and Five on September 7th and 8th.
