Gary 7, El Paso 4
The Gary SouthShore RailCats clinched the playoffs with their 7-4 win over the El Paso Diablos.
Billy Spottiswood threw 5.2 innings and let up just two runs to pick up the win for the Diablos. He struck out four hitters and walked three while giving up six hits.
2B Daniel Pulfer had a great night at the plate in the 10 spot, going 3-4 with two RBIs and one run. LF Adam Klein also had a good performance offensively. He went 2-5 with three RBIs and one run, including a triple.
Sioux City 4, St. Paul 0
The Sioux City Explorers shut out the St. Paul Saints 4-0 and only needed two pitchers to do it.
Richard Salazar started the game and threw seven innings of no-run, one-hit baseball. He struck out seven batters and walked only three. Kyle Kingsley came in the game and pitched the final two innings, giving up just two hits and three walks. He struck out two in the process.
RF Peter Barrows and CF Eliezer Mesa paced the team offensively, combining to go 4-8 with one RBI and two runs.
Laredo 8, Quebec 4
The Laredo Lemurs doubled up the Quebec Capitales, 8-4 with the help of three straight innings with two runs.
1B John Alonso and 3B Garrett Buchelle led the team on offense. Alonso went 3-4 with an RBI and two runs while Buchelle went 2-4 with two RBIs and two runs.
Lee Cruz picked up the win for the Lemurs, going 5.1 innings and giving up four runs. He managed three strike outs, allowed four walks and scattered nine hits. The Laredo bullpen then combined for 3.2 innings of shutout baseball.
Grand Prairie 5, Lincoln 1
Grand Prairie limited the Lincoln Saltdogs to just one run in their 5-1 win. Only four Lincoln batters were able to pick up hits against an impressive AirHogs pitching staff.
Josh Strawn started on the hill for Grand Prairie and gave up the only run Lincoln would score in his 7.2 innings of work. He struck out four and scattered six hits before handing the ball over to Patrick Mincey.
Mincey went the remaining 1.1 innings and only gave up two walks to preserver the win.
DH Ryan Pineda supplied most of the offense for the AirHogs out of the cleanup spot. He went 2-4 with a double, three RBIs and one run.
Wichita 5, Kansas City 3
The Wichita Wingnuts took down the Kansas City T-Bones with a score of 5-3. Only five Wichita batters would tally hits, but it would be enough to get away with the victory.
2B Jake Kahaulelio had another good offensive game for the Wingnuts. He went 2-3 with a triple, four RBIs and one run.
Justin Klipp, the starter for Wichita, threw six innings and gave up just three runs to help his team pick up the win. He struck out three batters, walked one and gave up nine hits.
Winnipeg 9, Fargo-Moorhead 0
The Winnipeg Goldeyes shut out the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 9-0.
Jason Jarvis got the start for Winnipeg and threw 7.2 shutout innings and gave up just five hits. He also struck out four batters and walked none on 85 pitches.
Brendan Lafferty closed out the final 1.1 innings and didn't allow a hit or run. He struck out a batter and walked a batter.
Sioux Falls 10, Amarillo 3
The Siuox Falls Canaries exploded for 15 hits to take down the Amarillo Sox, 10-3.
DH Tim Pahuta paced the Sox out of the sixth spot in the lineup with his 2-5 night. He homered, drove in three runs and scored once. CF Reggie Abercrombie also had a good night, with three hits in four at bats as well as an RBI and a run.
Ben Moore had a fantastic outing for the Canaries, going 8.1 innings and giving up the Sox' only three runs. He struck out five, walked three and allowed just five hits during his outing.
