New York Boulders News Release

(RAMAPO, N.Y.) - The Boulders' Independence Day festivities were damped Friday with an 8-4 loss at home to the Jackals. The Rockland Boulders (21-17) had their three game winning streak snapped as the New Jersey Jackals (22-15) held onto first place with the victory. After trailing by eight runs in the fifth inning, the Boulders managed to build a small comeback, scoring four unanswered runs, but ultimately fell short.

After both teams failed to record a hit through the first three innings, the Jackals opened the scoring in the top of the fourth. Charlie Law, Rockland's starting pitcher, allowed two walks in the inning before giving up a three-run homer to Jon Talley to give the Jackals a 3-0 lead on just one hit.

New Jersey's offense managed to score five more runs in the fifth inning. With runners on second and third with two outs, Jorge Cortes delivered a two-run single off of Charlie Law to bring the Boulders deficit to 5-0. Later in the inning, with Greg Terhune on the mound for Rockland, Jeremy Barnes hit a three-run homer for the Jackals to give New Jersey an 8-0 lead.

The Boulders quickly answered in the bottom half of the fifth with three runs of their own. After a Jerod Edmondson double to lead off the inning, Steve Nyisztor came through with an RBI single to put Rockland on the board. Later in the inning with the bases loaded and one out, Nyisztor was able to score from third on a sacrifice fly by Junior Arrojo as Joe Maloney moved to third. Maloney would then score on a wild pitch from Jackal's starter, Gabriel Perez, to bring the Boulders closer at a score of 8-3.

Rockland would tack on one more run in the sixth inning thanks to a sacrifice fly by Steve Nyisztor; his second RBI of the night. However, this is as close as the Boulders would get as they fell by a score of 8-4.

Charlie Law (1-3) took the loss for Rockland. Law allowed six runs on three hits while walking three batters in four and two-thirds innings. He also struck out two batters. Gabriel Perez (5-2) picked up the win for the Jackals allowing four runs in the contest. Perez did not allow a base runner until the fifth inning.

Jerod Edmondson picked up two doubles in the contest to give him 698 career hits in the Can-Am league; just one shy of tying the league record. Steve Nyisztor contributed with two RBIs in the game with another added by Junior Arrojo. The Boulders will look to bounce back on Saturday as they travel to take on the Trois-Rivieres Aigles away from home at 7:05pm.
