Boston Breakers News Release

HANOVER, Mass. (June 6, 2015) - Midfielder Maddy Evans picked the perfect time to score her first professional goal. Less than two minutes after Washington took a 1-0 lead in the second half, Evans tallied the equalizer, earning the Breakers a 1-1 draw at Maureen Hendricks Field in Boyds, Md.

The tie moved Boston's record to 3-3-2 and extended the team's unbeaten streak to four. It was also the first point earned on the road this season for the Breakers (3-3-2), who entered the match at 0-3-0 away from Boston.

The Spirit (4-3-2) controlled possession in the first half and threatened a few times in the first 45 minutes. The league's leading scorer Crystal Dunn was twice denied by Breakers keeper Jami Kranich in the first half, the second attempt from close range. Kranich finished the match with a career-high eight saves. The Breakers were outshot, 9-3, in the first half. Kristie Mewis had the best chance in the first half, hitting the post in the 40th minute.

The Spirit took a 1-0 lead in the 64th minute when former Breakers midfielder Amanda DaCosta gathered her own rebound just outside of the box and struck it past Kranich. But just one minute and 40 seconds later, the Breakers tied it up when Evans scored the first goal of her career.

A cross from Lauren Lazo was punched out by Spirit keeper Kelsey Wys, but it came down just inside the 18 where Evans snuck in, picked it out and volleyed it into the far corner to tie the game.

The Breakers are 2-0-2 in their last four games, conceding just two goals during that stretch.

The NWSL takes a two-week break for the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup. The Breakers return to action on Sunday, June 21 at 4 p.m. ET to take on Seattle Reign FC at home. They remain at Soldiers Field Soccer Stadium for the following three games, hosting the Western New York Flash on Sunday, June 28 at 5 p.m, FC Kansas City on Thursday, July 9 at 7 p.m., and the Chicago Red Stars on Wednesday, July 15 at 7 p.m.
