Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings News Release

Bossier City, La- The Bossier-Shreveport BattleWings fell to the Boise Burn 54-45 in front of 3,211 raucous fans at the CenturyTel Center on Saturday night, dropping their record to 1-2 on the young season. The BattleWings took an early 14-0 lead in the 1st quarter after FB Jason Schule rumbled for a 7 yard touchdown and WR Manwell Talbert drug a defender 8 yards on a 19 yard slant play. The BattleWings extended that lead to 17-7 after K Art Carmody nailed a 32 yard field goal with 9:44 remaining in the first half, but saw the lead quickly dissipate after Burn WR Jomo Wilson scrambled 26 yards on a touchdown reception and DB Terrance Sanders picked off an errant Andrico Hines pass and returned it for a touchdown with 2:03 remaining in the first half. Fortunately for the BattleWings, P.J. Berry scored his first touchdown of the night on a 16 yard touchdown pass from Andrico Hines to give the BattleWings a 24-21 lead going into halftime.

The BattleWings' lead at halftime did not last long as Jomo Wilson returned the opening kickoff of the 3rd quarter 50 yards for a touchdown to give the Burn a 28-24 advantage. Wings' WR P.J. Berry added his second score of the night on a 14 yard touchdown reception, but that was offset when Burn WR Casey Allen scored on a 2 yard run to give the Burn a 34-31 lead at the end of the third quarter. BattleWings' WR Buchie Ibeh sandwiched Nichiren Flowers' two touchdown receptions in the 4th quarter with touchdown receptions of 8 yards and 18 yards but the BattleWings still trailed the Burn 47-45. The BattleWings had some scoring opportunities at the end of the game but could not recover a Carmody onside kick and could not stop QB Taylor Tharp from falling 3 yards into the endzone for the final score of the game. The Wings' were able to advance to the 3 yard line on a long pass to P.J. Berry, but it was too little, too late as time expired.

The BattleWings will travel to Hidalgo, Texas next week to take on Southwest Division foe Rio Grande Valley Dorados on April 18th. The BattleWings will return home on May 2nd, as they square off against the Arkansas Twisters.
