Milwaukee Mustangs News Release
Moline, IL -- A wounded animal is always dangerous. Milwaukee found out just how dangerous a when it dropped a 69-48 decision to Quad Cities. Following a 74-20 drubbing at the hands of the Tennessee Valley Vipers last week, Quad Cities took out their frustrations on the Iron, beating them 69-48 in Moline. Milwaukee got off to a great start turning the opening possession into a touchdown. Tyler Donovan found Antoine Burns in the end zone to put Milwaukee up early. The rest of the quarter saw the teams trade punches with Quad Cities leading 14-13 at the end of the first quarter.
Scott Burnoski made a great catch to start the second quarter to put the Iron ahead when Tyler Donovan rolled to his right under pressure and fired a prayer to Burnoski from 23 yards out. The receiver reached over the top of coverage to pull in the scoring strike and gave the Iron a 20-14 lead. From there, the wheels fell off the Iron bus. Fueled by a sack-happy defense and a Donovan interception, Quad Cities scored four straight touchdowns to close out the half and lead 41-20. Adding insult to injury, Donovan exited the game late in the second quarter and did not return.
Milwaukee was outscored 21-7 in the third quarter as reserve quarterback Shane Adler attempted to lead Milwaukee on a furious fourth quarter comeback. The UW-La Crosse graduate lead the Iron on three scoring drives in the final period, but the deficit was too great to overcome. Adler finished the game with 246 yards passing and three touchdown strikes. Milwaukee was lead offensively by Scott Burnoski's 12 catches and three touchdown receptions. Milwaukee drops to 1-2 on the season. They return home Friday night to face divisional foe Peoria at the Bradley Center. Kick-off is at 7:05 p.m.
