Bortnick Traded to Diamondbacks

The Tampa Bay Rays announce that Biscuits second-baseman Tyler Bortnick has been traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for Ryan Roberts.

Bortnick was hitting .253 with four home runs, 48 RBI, eight triples and 23 stolen bases in his first season at the double-A level with the Biscuits. He is a career .289 hitter in his four seasons in the Rays system. The Rays drafted Bortnick in the 16th round in 2009 out of Coastal Carolina University.

Roberts, 31, was hitting .250 for the Diamondbacks with six home runs and 34 RBI. The veteran infielder has spent parts of seven seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays (2006-2007), Texas Rangers (2008) and Arizona (2009-2012).

The Biscuits active-roster is now one short of the league-max of 25.
