The Border Cats saw their four game winning streak come to an end Wednesday night in Willmar as they lost 4-3 to the Stingers. Steven Brault lifted a sacrifice fly to right field with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the 9th inning to bring home the winning run. Kyle Cornett (Murray State University) took the loss in relief as he loaded the bases in the last of the 9th on a base hit and two walks. The Cats grabbed a 3-0 lead by scoring all of their runs in the third inning. Dylan Goodwin (Central Michigan University) doubled and scored on a single by Dylan Becker (Missouri State University). Ryan Casillas (Southern Illinois University) recorded his team leading ninth RBI when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Michael Foster (Northeastern University) scored the third run on a double steal. The Cats managed only three hits on the night as their record fell to 4-4.
Thunder Bay's Caleb Smith (Rice University) had a solid outing as he pitched 6 1/3 innings in his first start of the season. The righthander allowed just three hits and two runs while striking out five. Smith has a 2.53 ERA in two appearances. The Cats and Stingers conclude their two-game series tonight at Bill Taunton Stadium at 8:05pm ET.
