Lake Erie Crushers News Release
SCHAUMBURG, IL - The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, dropped game two to Schaumburg Boomers, 8-1, on Wednesday night. The Crushers (31-36) have lost three in a row to the Boomers (46-21).
The Boomers took an early lead with three runs in the first. After back-to-back walks to Zack Weigel and David Harris with one out, Josh Gardiner and Sean Godfrey connected for consecutive two-out doubles to put Schaumburg on top, 3-0, after one.
The Boomers added a pair in the third. John Holland led off with a triple into the right field corner, and he beat the throw to the plate when Gardiner bounced a ball to first in the next at bat. Godfrey followed with a single, and Gardiner stole third to put runners on the corners. Cosimo Canella drew a walk two batters later to load the bases, and a deep flyball to right gave Gardiner enough time to cross home and give the Boomers a 5-0 advantage.
Two more scored for Schaumburg in the sixth. Kyle Ruchim knocked a one-out double before Weigel singled him in. In the next at bat, David Harris added another two-bagger to score Weigel and extend the Boomers' lead to 7-0.
The Boomers continued to pile on with another run in the seventh. Andrew Brodbeck smacked a one-out double, and three batters later, Kyle Ruchim picked up his second hit of the night with an RBI double to move the Schaumburg lead to 8-0.
Lake Erie finally broke through to end the shutout in the eighth. Josh McAdams led off with a double to put a runner in scoring position, and back-to-back flyouts from Austin Afenir and Parker Norris scored the Crushers' first baseman to polish off the scoring at 8-1.
Adam Quintana shouldered the loss for the Crushers in his first start since June 7. Quintana (3-3) surrendered five earned runs on four hits while walking five and striking out four in four innings of work. Lake Erie and Schaumburg finish their series with another 7:30 p.m. EDT start on Thursday night. Nick Deeg (1-0, 1.80) is scheduled to make the start for the Crushers in the series finale.
