
Grizzlies Split Doubleheader with Miners

MARION, Ill. - Down to their final out in the first game of a doubleheader Wednesday night, the Gateway Grizzlies (22-47) got a two-run base hit from Matt Hearn to beat the Southern Illinois Miners (27-41) by a final score of 3-2.
Hearn drove in Evan Rogers and pinch-runner Dan Holst to give Gateway the lead.
Vince Molesky (5-5) threw a seven-inning complete game, allowing only two runs on six hits en route to the victory. He struck out four without a walk. Molesky is now 3-0 with a 1.93 ERA in his last six starts since returning from injury.
Rogers had a base hit and a walk to go with his game-tying run. Joel McKeithan chipped in an RBI single and a walk.
In the nightcap of Sunday's doubleheader, the Miners tallied five runs in the third to blow the game open and cruised to a 6-0 win.
Gateway got a pair of scoreless relief innings from Tanner Cable and another pair of hits from Hearn.
After splitting the doubleheader, Gateway will try to win its second straight rubber match in the deciding third game of the series Thursday night at Rent One Park in Marion. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., with Grizzlies Media Network coverage beginning at 6:50
