Schaumburg Boomers News Release
EVANSVILLE, IN - The Schaumburg Boomers overcame an early deficit to upend the Evansville Otter 5-2 and claim a sixth consecutive road victory.
Evansville struck first, scoring a single run in the bottom of the first on an RBI double from Dakota Phillips after the Boomers left a pair on base in the top of the inning. The run was the first allowed by the Boomers in 19 innings. The Boomers were able to take the lead behind a pair of runs in the third. Chase Dawson dropped a single into left with two outs to tie the score. Two batters later Kyle Fitzgerald was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to give Schaumburg the advantage.
Two more runs came across in the top of the fourth as a result of four consecutive singles. Travis Holt plated Will Prater with an RBI single and Brett Milazzo added an RBI single as well. Evansville pulled within 4-2 on an unearned run in the sixth but the pitching staff was able to work out of jams to post the victory.
Aaron Glickstein threw 5.1 innings and allowed just one earned run to improve to 2-1 on the year, striking out five. Antonio Frias and Cristian Lopez bridged to gap to Dylan Stutsman, who worked the ninth for his third save of the year. The team finished with 11 hits led by three from Gaige Howard, who has reached base in every game this year, 25. Blake Grant-Parks tallied his second consecutive multi-hit game and Prater along with Dawson also logged two hits. The Boomers have posted 10-or-more hits in nine of the last 11 games and are 10-4 away from home this season.
The Boomers (16-9) conclude the brief three-game series on Sunday evening at 5:05 pm with RHP Luis Perez (2-1, 3.62) on the hill opposite RHP Justin Watland (3-1, 6.39). The team returns home on Tuesday to open a six-game homestand with a $1 Hot Dog Night thanks to Gordon Food Service. The home schedule for 2023 is just underway.
