Bonner, Wilcox Big in Storm Win Over Waterloo

KEARNEY, Neb. - Center Tim Bonner's two goals, including the game-winning goal, and G Adam Wilcox's 37 saves assisted the Tri-City Storm in beating the Waterloo Black Hawks Saturday night 3-2. Wilcox added his second assist of the season on Bonner's second goal, which tied a Storm single-season record for assists by a goaltender.

Tri-City (12-23-0, 24 pts - 8th in Western Conference) - who pulled to within two points of a playoff spot with the win - scored the opening goal at the 5:13 into the game on the first of two by Bonner. Bonner's first goal was assisted by RW Andrew Dorantes and RW Joshua Henke. The first goal of the game scored by the Storm ended a six-game drought following nine-consecutive games scoring the opening goal in the game.

Waterloo (17-10-4, 38 pts - 4th in Western Conference) would briefly tie the game at the 7:51 mark in the first period on LW Taylor Cammarata's team-leading 17th goal of the season.

Henke would score 35 seconds later to reestablish the Storm's one goal lead, as C Brian Ward would pick up the lone assist after forcing a Black Hawks turnover in the Waterloo zone outside the left-circle. Ward ended the weekend with two assists and a plus-2 rating in his first two games back with the Storm after leaving Dartmouth College.

The Storm would strike quickly in the second period to increase their lead on Bonner's second goal of the game and 12th of the season at the 0:29 mark in the period. Defenseman Bryan Sinz and Wilcox were credited with the assists on the Storm's game-winning goal early in the second period, as both of Wilcox's assists this season have come on game-winning goals.

The Black Hawks would pull to within one goal at the 11:58 mark in the third period, as LW Aaron Pearce would take a long pass from C Mark Naclerio to score on a breakaway. But, the goal would not be enough with Tri-City getting 10 saves by Wilcox in the final period.

Wilcox (11-10-0) earned his fourth win as a member of the Storm this season making 27 saves on 28 shots through two periods in route to his 37 saves in the game. G Eamon McAdam (3-6-0) made 4 saves on 7 shots in the loss for the Black Hawks and was pulled following the third goal allowed in favor of G Cal Peterson (3-0-0), who made 15 saves on 15 shots in relief.

Tri-City went 0-for-3 on the power play, while going a perfect 6-for-6 on the penalty kill. All three power plays for the Storm were shorten due to Tri-City penalties.

The win by the Storm snapped a six-game losing streak and is the first win for the Storm in the 2012 calendar year.

The Storm play against the Omaha Lancers next Friday night in Omaha and will return home against the Sioux Falls Stampede on Saturday. The Breeze 94.5 FM will air the game Friday and Classic Hits 98.9 FM will air Saturday's game. The Viaero Wireless Pre-Game Shows start at 6:45 p.m. each night.
