Brazos Valley Bombers News Release
Victoria, TX (July 16, 2014) - The Brazos Valley Bombers (28-10) defeated the Victoria Generals (29-11) 1-0 on Wednesday, tying the two game series.
It was a scoreless game for the Generals and Bombers up until the eighth inning, when left fielder Ford Moore made his way home after a wild pitch by the Generals and a base hit by designated hitter Logan Nottebrok. Moore had an excellent night at the plate, going 3-3 and adding one run and one walk to his resume.
The Bombers played outstanding defense all night, led by short stop Horacio Correa III and first baseman G.R. Hinsley.
"It was just a great baseball game. A bunch of big moments in the game, highlighted by Horacio Correa's double play when [the Bombers] had no outs, and for him to come up there in that first and third situation and the instincts he had to make that play, it was one of the best plays I've seen as a coach," said head coach Curt Dixon. "And then G.R. there in the ninth inning, getting the lead runner, getting a guy out of scoring position, which set us up for the double play. Both those plays that Horacio and GR made, you don't teach those, those are instinct. You either got it or you don't."
Garrett Harris led off on the mound for the Bombers, putting in four innings of work. Andre Shewcraft was awarded the win for the night, with three innings on the mound, no hits, and two strikeouts.
Victoria was unable to answer Moore's eighth inning run in their final two at bats, thanks in part to Bombers closing pitcher, Nick Johnson. Johnson saved the game for the Bombers in his two innings at work, holding the Generals offense to zero runs and only two hits.
The Bombers will travel to the Woodlands Christian Academy on Thursday to take on the Woodlands Strykers at 7:05 p.m. in the first of a two game series. They will return back to Cellucor Field on Saturday for Team Poster Night brought to you by Brazos Bingo where they will face the Acadiana Cane Cutters.
