Cane Cutters Use Late Inning Heroics to Top Marshals

The Acadiana Cane Cutters defeated the Texas Marshals 4-3 in extra innings on Wednesday night in Lafayette with the help of some late inning heroics from their offense.

With the Marshals leading 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth with two outs, Cane Cutter's All-Star centerfielder Connor Barron hit an RBI triple to right field tie the game up at 3-3 and force extra innings. The Cane Cutters then got a walk-off RBI single by Trent Giambrone in the bottom of the 10th inning for earn the 4-3 victory.

Holden Novak got the start for the Marshals and pitched well. The Cane Cutters jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a sacrifice fly. Novak end up allowing two runs on seven hits with two walks and one strikeout.

The Marshals took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning. Daniel Rushing scored on a wild pitch and Alex Gosser hit a sacrifice fly to plate Oliver Christensen.

A solo home run by Chance Vincent of the Cane Cutters tied the game up at 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Marshals regained the lead in the top of the seventh as Adonis Askew drew a bases-loaded walk to force in a run.

The Marshals were unable to extend their lead any further in the seventh and eighth innings, both times leaving the bases loaded.

Jeff Harvill took the loss for the Marshals as he allowed two runs on four hits in 1.2 innings with one walk and two strikeouts.

Chad Nelson pitched two innings of scoreless relief and Collin Sherrod pitched 0.2 innings without allowing a run.

With the loss, the Marshals fall to 12-24 on the season and 4-5 in the second-half. The Cane Cutters improve to 20-17 overall and 6-4 in the second-half.

The Marshals will host the Victoria Generals in a two-game series at Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas on Thursday and Friday nights. Both games are set for 7:05pm.
